Haroon Rashid Takes Charge of Domestic Cricket in Pakistan

In a recent development in Pakistan’s cricket setup, Haroon Rashid, the chief selector of the men’s national team, has been assigned an additional responsibility in the realm of domestic cricket. According to sources, Haroon has taken over the reins of domestic cricket, replacing Nadeem Khan, who was removed from his position shortly after the management committee led by Najam Sethi assumed control.

Earlier this month, Nadeem Khan faced dismissal from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He had previously been transferred to the women’s wing a few weeks prior and had also experienced a reduction in his salary. Nadeem, who is the older brother of former Pakistani wicketkeeper Moin Khan, was initially appointed during the tenure of former chairman Ehsan Mani. He had served as the Domestic Director and the Director of the National Cricket Academy, formerly known as the PCB High-Performance Centre.

During his tenure, Nadeem played a pivotal role in appointing numerous domestic coaches throughout the country and was involved in making important decisions when the domestic cricket system underwent changes during the tenure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

With this new responsibility, Haroon Rashid will now be engaged in three different roles within the cricketing landscape. He assumed the position of chief selector after Shahid Afridi declined to continue in the role following the three-match home ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year. Haroon, a veteran of 23 Tests and 12 ODIs as a player, had also stepped down as a management committee member upon taking up the chief selector’s position.

Under Sethi’s leadership, Afridi was appointed as the interim chief selector solely for the home ODI series against New Zealand. Haroon Rashid was part of the selection committee led by Afridi, which also included Abdur Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

The expansion of Haroon Rashid’s responsibilities within Pakistan cricket reflects the board’s trust in his capabilities and the recognition of his experience in the sport. As he assumes the charge of domestic cricket alongside his existing roles, cricket enthusiasts in Pakistan will be keen to see the impact of his decisions on the development and progress of the game at the grassroots level in the country.
