World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz battled past Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the second round of the Cincinnati Open on Sunday. The Spaniard started with a dominant first set but struggled in the second, committing several unforced errors.
In the final set, Alcaraz regained his rhythm, taking a 4-1 lead before closing out the match with a blistering forehand winner. The victory extends his incredible run, having reached the finals of his last six tournaments. He will next face either Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands or Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic.
Coco Gauff Overcomes Serving Woes
Second seed Coco Gauff booked her spot in the third round with a 6-3, 6-2 win over China’s Wang Xinyu. Despite hitting eight double faults in the first set, the American stayed composed and adjusted her game plan.
“I had a shaky start with the serve but I was able to push through and figure that out,” Gauff said. “Just taking my time and remembering the things we worked on in practice and trying not to fall into the same old patterns.”
Gauff will face Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in her next match.

American Reilly Opelka produced an upset by defeating Australian sixth seed Alex de Minaur 7-6(6), 6-4. Meanwhile, Jessica Pegula also advanced after a solid 6-4, 6-3 victory over Australia’s Kimberly Birrell.
