Media reported that the committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the World Cup in India concluded its meeting. Led by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the meeting had attendees such as Marriyum Aurangzeb (Information Minister), Qamar Zaman Qaira (Adviser to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs), and Hina Rabbani Khar (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs). The Inter-Provincial Coordination minister, the adviser on Establishment, PSPM, representatives of secret agencies and sensitive departments, as well as representatives from the Foreign Secretariat’s Asia Desk were also present. During the meeting, there was a briefing on Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup.
Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, also expressed his opinion on the Pakistan team’s participation in the event. According to sources, the meeting decided that a security delegation is likely to visit India in the third week of August. Pakistani authorities will coordinate with India and the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding this matter.
The security delegation’s purpose will be to review security arrangements at the venues hosting Pakistan’s matches. The final decision on Pakistan’s participation will be based on the clearance given by the security assessment. Pakistan is scheduled to take part in the World Cup in India later this year in October-November, with their first match against the Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad and a match against arch-rivals India on October 15 in Ahmedabad.
