BOLOGNA: Six-time champions Spain booked their place in the Davis Cup final for the first time since 2019 after securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Germany on Saturday. The decisive moment came in the doubles rubber, where Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez clinched a crucial 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Germany’s specialist pairing Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.

Granollers–Martinez Deliver Under Pressure
The Spanish duo came out firing, dominating the opening set with a commanding 4-0 lead and closing it out 6-2 without showing any signs of nerves in a high-stakes match.
Germany responded strongly in the second set, breaking early and moving ahead 4-1 before forcing the match into a deciding third set. With momentum shifting, Granollers and Martinez regained control at the perfect moment, breaking early for another 4-1 advantage and holding firm to seal Spain’s passage to Sunday’s final.
Ferrer Praises Team’s Fight and Discipline
Spain’s team captain David Ferrer praised the resilience and composure of his players, emphasising both pride and focus as they prepare for the title match.
“I feel really happy. I’m very proud of my players — they fought a lot to be here. Now it’s normal that we are really excited, but after this we have to take rest and be ready for tomorrow,”
Ferrer said.
Spain, whose last Davis Cup triumph came in 2019, will now face defending champions Italy, who defeated Belgium in the first semi-final and are aiming for a third consecutive Davis Cup crown.
Carreno Busta Sets the Tone With Opening Win
Earlier in the day, Spain took a crucial early lead when Pablo Carreno Busta, ranked 89th in the world, delivered a composed performance to defeat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 7-6(6) in the opening singles match.
Germany briefly levelled the tie when Alexander Zverev outclassed Roberto Bautista Agut, but the Spanish doubles team ultimately secured the nation’s long-awaited return to the final.
