After six seasons as the head baseball coach, the University of Alabama has decided to part ways with Brad Bohannon. The announcement came through a press release on Thursday morning, where Alabama’s director of athletics, Greg Byrne, stated that the termination process for Bohannon has been initiated.
The decision was made due to Bohannon’s violation of the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of university employees.As a result of this decision, Bohannon has been relieved of all his duties, and Jason Jackson, the pitching coach for the Crimson Tide, will step in as the interim head coach.
The university has removed Bohannon from the official team roster and website, signifying the change in leadership.This development follows news from earlier in the week that several states, starting with Ohio, have decided to halt betting on Alabama baseball games.
The decision came after suspicions arose from Friday night’s loss against No. 1 ranked LSU, raising concerns about potential irregularities. Adding to the challenges faced by Bohannon, a lawsuit was filed in mid-April by former player Blake Bennett against Bohannon, Jackson, and athletic trainer Sean Stryker.
The lawsuit alleges that they refused medical care to a severely injured player.Brad Bohannon took over as head coach in 2017, following the dismissal of Greg Goff after just one season with a disappointing 19-34-1 record. Over his six seasons as Alabama’s head coach, Bohannon achieved a record of 166-124, with a win percentage of .572.
Prior to this role, Bohannon had served as an assistant coach at Wake Forest, Kentucky, and Auburn.While the university has not provided further comments at this time, citing an ongoing review, the decision to part ways with Brad Bohannon marks a significant change for the Alabama baseball program.
