Pakistan Army bagged seven Gold, six Silver and two Bronze medals on day one of the athletics event to retain their dominance during the ongoing 34th National Games at Ayub Stadium, Quetta.
After a brief delay in start of the athletics event, Army players dominated the medals chart on the opening day. Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) remained second with overall 14 medals (five Gold and Silver each and four Bronze).
HEC won a Gold, two Silver and four Bronze. Sindh and Air Force bagged a Bronze medal each. In men’s 100m, Army’s Naeem Akhtar became fastest athlete today and bagged the Gold medal. Jamshed (Army) also bagged Gold in men’s shot put event. In women’s 100m, WAPDA’s Isha Imran became the fastest athlete after she clocked 11.5s.
The second round of athletics will start tomorrow at the same venue. On the other hand, the youngest weightlifter from Balochistan Aimal won an honourary Gold medal during the event. 11-year-old Aimal was given a go at the weightlifting stage. The aspiring kid aims to represent her province in the future.
Table Tennis event
Pakistan Army and WAPDA have qualified for the final of Table Tennis event in the 34th National Games. Army beat Railways 3-0 whereas WAPDA defeated HEC by 3-0 in the semi-finals.
