Manchester United Fans Rally Against Glazer Ownership: Bidding War Heats Up

Supporters of Manchester United have taken to the streets in protest against the club’s current owners, the Glazer family, ahead of their match against Aston Villa. The demonstrations coincided with the end of the third round of bidding for ownership of the club, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani emerging as the top contenders.

Holding banners and flyers, United fans congregated outside Old Trafford prior to the game, carrying slogans such as “Full sale only,” “Fight greed, Fight Glazers, Fight for United,” and “Love United, hate Glazer.” Many protesters also wore the club’s shirts, using the occasion to express their dissatisfaction with the Glazer family’s ownership.

According to reports, Ratcliffe’s firm Ineos has tabled an offer to buy Manchester United for over £5bn, with the billionaire seeking to acquire a controlling stake in the club. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani is also understood to have submitted a bid, accompanied by a pledge of substantial additional funding.

Sunday’s protests were the latest in a series of demonstrations by United supporters, who have regularly voiced their opposition to the Glazer family’s ownership during games this season. The protesters congregated a few miles from Old Trafford before approaching the East Stand at around 1 pm.

A decision on the club’s ownership is expected to be announced soon, with Ratcliffe reportedly confident that his bid will be accepted. Meanwhile, United were looking to stage a comeback from a 2-2 draw against Tottenham in their match on Sunday.
