Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist has strongly refuted fake quotes circulating on social media that wrongly attributed critical comments to him regarding the recent Test series between Pakistan and Australia.
As a broadcaster during the series, Gilchrist found himself accused of harshly criticizing the Pakistan team following their 3-0 series defeat. Despite the series loss, Pakistan, captained by Shan Masood, demonstrated competitiveness during the Boxing Day Test and unearthed promising talents like Aamer Jamal and Agha Salman on their debut tour.
A fabricated quote falsely attributed to Gilchrist read: “Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions. What have they won here in the last 35 years.”
Taking to social media to clarify, Gilchrist vehemently denied making such remarks, labeling them as “absolutely fake, made-up quotes.” He acknowledged Pakistan’s commendable performances during the series, stating, “Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a World Champion Aust team and very nearly pinched a Test or two.”
While Pakistan’s last Test victory in Australia dates back to 1995, their recent tour demonstrated significant improvement and competitiveness against the formidable Australian side. Gilchrist’s clarification aims to set the record straight, emphasizing that the fabricated quotes do not reflect his views on Pakistan’s performance.
As Australia prepares for a home series against the West Indies, Pakistan is gearing up for their next challenge – a five-match T20I series against New Zealand. The cricket community awaits these upcoming encounters with anticipation, appreciating the resilience and progress showcased by teams in the dynamic world of international cricket.
