Lahore – Today, Punjab’s sports adviser Wahab Riaz expressed his confidence in reviving the national game of hockey by implementing progressive measures.

During a press conference held in Lahore, Wahab announced that the Punjab government would provide a monthly stipend to 20 deserving hockey players.

“The Chief Minister of Punjab has announced monthly stipends for the top 20 players. Starting from next month, each player will receive PKR 20,000. This initial group will consist of both national and international players,” Wahab shared.He further emphasized, “This is just the beginning.

Our objective is to restore our national game to its full potential. We have plans to gradually increase the monthly stipends in the future.”Additionally, Wahab assured that hockey players from small towns would receive proper attention.

“We are actively working on establishing a state-of-the-art facility for 300 athletes. This project will assist us in nurturing talented players,” he stated.

“We will provide comprehensive training and facilities to hockey players from small towns. Furthermore, we are striving to ensure free medical services for our national players,” Wahab asserted.

According to the provincial sports adviser, the budget allocated for athletes will be augmented in the upcoming annual budget.

It is worth noting that Wahab recently organized the successful Ramadan Games 2023 in Lahore, featuring a series of events in badminton, cricket (tape ball), football, hockey, kabaddi, and table tennis. Players from across the province enthusiastically participated in these competitions, which were conducted in top-notch facilities.
